Climate change is a huge threat to the world’s materially poor, especially those who farm the land. Honduras, Central America, is located in what is called the ‘Dry Corridor’, inhabited mostly by indigenous peoples: Maya and Lenca. Communities are experiencing desertification and 132 Honduran municipalities are facing food shortages, extreme poverty and malnutrition. CASM, led by Nelson, has a two-pronged approach, helped by WDR. New methods of sustainable agriculture are being taught to achieve climate resilience, improve productivity and family nutrition. CASM is also facilitating local people being heard by decision-makers so that they are consulted in national and regional policy-making around climate change mitigation and agriculture. 200 families will be helped directly by WDR across 2023-2025.

“I have acquired more knowledge about the behaviour of the climate in our region. Not only my family will benefit, but the community in general.”
