Safeguarding documents

The Methodist Church in Ireland is committed to the wellbeing of the children and young people who attend our programmes. Having been at the forefront of Safeguarding since its inception, the church passionately believes in ensuring safe spaces for youth & children’s activities.  We believe that everyone should feel safe and have a voice.

Since 2004, MCI’s Child Protection Policy has been called ‘Taking Care’, written in conjunction with our close colleagues from the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. This has been updated twice now to ensure that the church has the most current policies and procedures in place.  This is the document upon which our child protection policies are based.

The Connexional Safeguarding Officer provides a comprehensive Child Protection training programme for leaders, volunteers and ministers across the island of Ireland.  Each training session will last a minimum of two hours and attendees must be present for the duration.

IMYC processes vetting forms through the National Vetting Bureau and AccessNI.

The current Code of Practice for AccessNI can be found here.
