Data Protection Resources

New EU Data Protection legislation comes into force from 25 May 2018.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) strengthens existing Data Protection Acts in the UK and RoI, particularly in the areas of accountability and giving individuals more rights in controlling what you can do with their information. Losing people’s data, or not securing it properly, could lead to a ‘breach’ and might result in fines from the Information Commissioner’s Office (UK) or Data Protection Commissioner (RoI). Every Methodist circuit and department needs to have a written data protection policy that makes sense to the people who are using it and can be implemented without delay.

This page contains some resources to help you understand your responsibilities and become compliant with the new law; they will be added to in the coming months. 'The Gift of Knowledge' Data Protection seminar will take place on each District at the beginning of 2018.

Meanwhile if you would like further information please contact Ross Harte at the Conference Office in 1 Fountainville Avenue, Belfast on 028 9032 4554 [Tuesday-Thursday 10am-4pm most weeks] or e-mail ross.harte@irishmethodist.org.
