Peace Prize for Language Cafe

Sprachencafe volunteers: Theresa, Birgit, Barbara, Mehmet, Kerstin

“Sprachencafe” (“Language Cafe”) is a ministry of the INSPIRE Project in Chemnitz. Run by volunteers, it brings people from different backgrounds and nationalities together, giving them a chance to practice speaking German. Having a common language is a brilliant way to help newcomers to integrate with their new community, and to counteract some of the fear and division can be associated with immigration.

Barry Sloan, an Irish Mission Partner who runs the INSPIRE Project with his wife Gillian, writes:

”On average around 50 people - from many different countries, and various religions - are sitting at tables together practising their German language skills. It's fantastic! And the team of volunteers who run this ministry are worthy winners. Congratulations!”
