March 2023 MWI President’s letter
Greetings to all Methodist Women in Ireland!
I want to introduce you to my chosen project for my first year in office and after much prayer and discussion I have chosen two projects for my term of office. My first year (this year) it is ‘I Am Girl’ and next year’s project, beginning 1st July 2023 to 30th June 2024 my project will be ‘Mental Health Throughout Ireland’.
Join with us to ensure girls in East Africa are empowered to complete their education and grow into healthy young women.
I AM GIRL seeks to improve the attendance of adolescent girls in school. Our goal is to educate boys, girls, teachers, parents and community members on issues such as gender equality, menstrual hygiene management, gender based violence and child protection. We believe now is the time to stand up for the rights of girls. Girls suffer from low self-esteem and are at risk of attack when walking to and from school or whilst collecting water. It is important that we try to banish the old myth that menstruation is unclean and replace it with some proper education and hygiene management.
