Service in Armagh Cathedral 2 Oct

9 October 2014

I attended a service in Armagh Cathedral last night (2 Oct) to welcome the Archbishop of Canterbury on a visit to Northern Ireland. It was a joyous occasion and he spoke of the need for the churches to be prayerful, hopeful and united in service.

Today's news of a further attack on an Orange hall and a Presbyterian church in north Donegal is a sad reminder of the relevance of the Archbishop's call to all of us.

I am very encouraged by the strong denunciation of these attacks by people from across the political and religious spectrum and particularly from the local community in the Convoy area. I join with them in sharing my sympathy with those who have been attacked.

I call on Methodist people to pray for peace at all levels of our society and to continue to live it out in all their relationships.
