Dear friends,

We are writing to you at a time that is unlike any we have ever experienced in living history.  Our churches and countries are dealing with exceptional challenges alongside the incredible difficulty of seeing many suffer at the hands of this new virus.  We remember with gratitude our time spent in Italy last September and can scarcely take in the enormity of human suffering that is happening there now. It is difficult to grasp the reality of what may come for all of us in the weeks and months ahead.

The Methodist Church in Ireland has issued important guidelines and instructions in regard to how churches operate at the present time. Obviously CSR urges all to respond to these guidelines very seriously. In this developing situation, there may be further guidance in the days and weeks ahead to which we will need to respond in regard to our church life.

Please read The Methodist Church in Ireland advisory guidelines in response to Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Revd Sam McGuffin, paid a courtesy visit to the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Rt Revd Andrew Forster, in Londonderry on Monday afternoon. Rev. Sam McGuffin and Bishop Forster are long–time friends, having first got to know one another during the Bishop’s ministry in the Diocese of Armagh.

International Women’s Day has been celebrated since 1911 and this year’s theme is #EachforEqual.

The Rev McGuffin will be focusing positively on the role of women in the Bible and in the Methodist Church in Ireland and seeking to contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure that, universally, women are respected, have equal opportunities, reap equal rewards for their work, and reach their full God-given potential.

Commenting on the current cultural experience the Rev.McGuffin said:

The Office 365 team will be in Cork on Tuesday 24thMarch to deliver Office 365 training. We will be providing step-by-step guidance to help you access and use your Church email account (Outlook) and cloud storage (OneDrive for Business).

On behalf of the Methodist people of Ireland, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Seamus Mallon. Seamus Mallon has had a long and distinguished political career in which he has contributed positively to the live of all who live here. He was a man of integrity and courage. His straight talking may have ruffled a few feathers at time but we always appreciated his honest and his unswerving rejection of the use of violence for political ends. His sincere compassion for victims of the Troubles was noted and appreciated, sadly, on far too many occasions.
