Seamus Mallon - A Tribute

On behalf of the Methodist people of Ireland, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Seamus Mallon. Seamus Mallon has had a long and distinguished political career in which he has contributed positively to the live of all who live here. He was a man of integrity and courage. His straight talking may have ruffled a few feathers at time but we always appreciated his honest and his unswerving rejection of the use of violence for political ends. His sincere compassion for victims of the Troubles was noted and appreciated, sadly, on far too many occasions. He was not only a man who worked hard for peace, but did what may the more difficult task, of working, working hard to make peace work. Particularly in his role as Deputy First Minister, he gave himself unstintingly in his work for all sides of our still divided society. We thank God for all that he enabled Seamus to do as a remarkable public servant and we pray for comfort for his family and friends who will miss him most.
