New President for Irish Council of Churches

Former President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Rev Brian Anderson has been installed as President of the Irish Council of Churches, a body which represents 13 denominations in Ireland.

Brian Anderson who currently serves in Wesley Centenary Church Bangor succeeds Rt. Rev John McDowell and is looking forward working with the other denominations in advancing the aims and objectives of the Council.

Speaking at his installation Mr Anderson said  ‘at a time of so much uncertainty particularly around Brexit, churches must keep pressing the people of power to look out for the Common Good and not the narrow interests of the few’. He added that the Irish Council of Churches should continue to be Agents of  Hope, particularly speaking up for those most vulnerable in our Society and challenged the churches to pick up again the work of reconciling our fractured communities.
