The Killing of Detective Garda Colm Horkan

The Methodist Church in Ireland is shocked and saddened by the killing of Detective Garda Colm Horkan in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

The members of An Garda Síochána give themselves in the service of our land, so that we can enjoy peace, justice and good order. Det Garda Horken has paid the ultimate price in his faithful service to the community.
We desire a society where all can live in peace and be treated justly and with dignity, so we hold with deep gratitude all who serve our community for its good.

The President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Rev Dr Tom McKnight, has said, 'We offer our deep sympathy to Det Garda Horken's family as they grieve his shocking loss. We also wish to express to all who serve in An Garda Síochána our sympathy and support at this tragic time. The community in Castlerea is also in our thoughts at present.'

Issued by the Southern Executive of the Council on Social Responsibility of the Methodist Church in Ireland.
