Methodist Historical Society - Annual Lecture

Title: The Influence of Cliff College on Irish Methodism

Speaker: Rev. Kenneth Todd, BA, MA, BD

For more than a 100 years Irish lay and prospective ministerial students have travelled to Cliff (‘Joyful News’) College, Derbyshire for initial formation as Christian workers and evangelists. Many of the 250 plus who made the journey later entered the Irish Methodist ministry and brought with them the ethos of Cliff College and its founder, Thomas Champness.

The Rev. Ken Todd, a former President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, served for 12 years in the Methodist Church, Sierra Leone before returning to service in Ireland. He has written several articles on the history of Methodism in Sierra Leone and co-authored a biography of the late Rev. S. Leslie Wallace, MBE, sometime President of the Methodist Church in Sierra Leone.
