The Gift of Knowledge - Data Protection seminar (Newtownabbey)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018 and will build on current Data Protection legislation that has been in effect since 1998. Methodist churches and their organisations need to set, understand and implement their updated data protection policies by that date. If the idea of dealing with legislation, policies and the risk of breach fines freaks you out, DON'T PANIC! The message of this seminar, led by the Rev. Ross Harte, is to "Keep Calm and Think Privacy". Together, we will explore the main issues surrounding data protection and how you can fulfil your responsibilities without being overwhelmed.

Whether you are starting from scratch, have a good grasp of what the law currently requires, or are an expert in data protection, this seminar will help you to secure and use appropriately that most precious of personal gifts - their information.

The seminar is designed for Methodist ministers, lay vocational employees and Circuit officers: people who either collect or use others' personal information, or are responsible for such people.

While this seminar is being run for the North East District, people from other Districts and/or organisations are welcome to attend.

It helps us to know roughly how many people will be attending, so please register beforehand at
