Role Opportunity: District Lay Leaders

Come June 2019, there will be a District Lay Leader for each new district; North Eastern, North Western, and Southern.

In consideration of this role, if you feel led, we invite you to pray and discern if God is calling you to take up this post. The invitation to consider isn’t limited to how much involvement you may or may not have in Methodist Church activities, or to how widely known you are. This role is there for who God calls to it. If you decide to enter into prayer and a time of discernment about this role, we affirm you in that decision and look forward to receiving an application if you choose to submit one.

The District Lay Leader's primary role is to support the District Superintendent in whatever way they can within the District. More specifically the Lay Leader will be active in the following areas:

  • Representative role – to represent the Methodist Church in Ireland at community and church events
  • Mission role – to discuss and share with the District Superintendent in his/her conversations about mission and discipleship with circuits and local societies
  • Consultative role – to work with the District Superintendent in dealing with district issues and strategy
  • Worship role – to lead worship and preach (if a local preacher) on available Sundays to encourage and inspire societies in their mission and discipleship
  • Prophetic role – to raise issues with the District Superintendent and suggest new ways of being Methodist and sharing the good news

Anyone, who is a full member of the Methodist Church in Ireland and has the support of their Circuit Superintendent may submit a request to be considered.

Please return to your current District Superintendent no later than 8 March 2019.
