Conference 2017

Methodist Conference 2017 coming to the Lisburn and Dromore Circuit

As a result of a change to the Conference rotation requested by the Midlands and Southern District, the General Committee decided that Conference 2017 would not be hosted by a District but rather would be organised between the Secretary of Conference’s Office and the Lisburn and Dromore Circuit. It will be held in Trinity Methodist Church from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th June.  The venue for the Installation Service for the President and the Ordination Service will be Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast.

The Connexion is grateful for the welcome and support offered by the Superintendent and Circuit.  As can be seen from the timetable, other societies on the circuit are also hosting Conference events.  Members of each of the societies will be involved in providing refreshments during the breaks.  Catering for the Conference meals is being supplied by Refresh Café at East Belfast Mission.  Thanks are expressed to those within the Trustees Office who have picked up much of the additional work in preparation for Conference 2017.

Visitors are welcome to attend the Representative Sessions of Conference. Details of the Bible Studies and the keynote addresses and associated events can be found in the timetable and the full schedule of business will be on the irishmethodist.org website. As usual there will be stands in the Foyer highlighting the work of the many departments within the Methodist Church.  Visitors are encouraged to visit these stands and engage with the staff and volunteers present.

A new addition to Methodist Conference for 2017 is the introduction of lunchtime workshops.  These will run for 30 minutes and will be as follow:

Rev. Dr. Edmund T. I Mawhinney - “Understanding Methodist Conference, a beginner’s guide”

Mrs Fiona Woods - “Circuit Finances, Budgets and Accounts”

Mrs Gillian Skillen - “Employment Guideline and your Circuit”

Mrs Donna Ahrens and Mrs Carol Gilmore - “Gift Aid – what you need to know”

The first two to be held on the Thursday and the last two on the Friday. Full details will appear on the website shortly.

The prayers and practical support of the Connexion are greatly appreciated by all those involved in the organisation.  Please pray that we might know the mind of Christ as we confer together.
