The Olive Tree Campaign

Thank you to all who have already taken part and have returned contributions to the office. All should arrive by the end of January.

WDRF encouraged every Irish Methodist Church to take part in the Olive Tree Campaign in the run-up to Christmas. Due to the occupation of Palestinian land, many farmers are losing their olive trees which may have been in the family for centuries. This has an impact on their livelihoods. Churches and individuals can replace some of these olive trees through the campaign. WDRF has produced some resources which can help highlight and explain the campaign..

Note that this is a humanitarian and not a political campaign.

WDRF Annual Report

News of all our current projects are contained in our annual report. One of the stories featured is that of Sita. She is a beneficiary of Kopila, Nepal which WDRF has supported for the last 3 years.

Sita Pariyar: “Kopila encouraged us to form parents' groups and gave us training. The group saved some of our earnings. I took a loan and bought a sewing machine. I did sewing work. I saved the money and after a few months bought a new machine.  After two years I paid back the loan and a friend took a loan to start sewing work. I can sew at home and look after the children. I would like to give my thanks to Kopila and those who are helping them to work with us.”

Annual reports reach Irish Methodist Churches in September. Read Sita's full story and hear of other projects. The report follows the 'chain of change' and hears from donors, committee members, local partners and beneficiaries. All playing their part to bring change to lives around the world.

Bible Studies for mid-weeks and small groups?

If you would like to give your small group or mid-week Bible study something to really chew on then you may wish to use your Bible study to examine some of the most important issues of the day.

Christian Aid has a new set of studies for small groups called "Justice and the Heart of God". It contains 10 sessions and examines issues such as justice, HIV, conflict and responding to disasters from a Biblical point of view. Contact Tim.
