Our Role
The advantage of a custodian body
is that if property or investments are held in the name of individual trustees
changes would have to be made each time one resigned, moved or died. This
is not the case with the Trustees as they are renewed annually by Conference
in perpetual succession.
The current main roles of the Trustees are:
- As Custodians of Deeds and Documents for Church Property vested under the Methodist Church in Ireland Act in the Statutory Trustees.
- As Custodians of the Investments of the Church. This represents resources of the whole church derived from donations, legacies and bequests to the Church which are professionally managed by Epworth Investments PLC.
- As Managers for Local Churches and Connexional Church Funds of all Northern Ireland and U.K. Gift Aids and Covenants.
In addition the Trustees also manage the Central Administration of Stipends and Allowances of Ministers.
Costs
The Trustees meet its administrative costs by charges on deeds held and against funds it holds as Custodian. The applicable costs are printed annually in the Minutes of Conference. Copies of the audited accounts are available on request by post or in the near future we'll make it available for download.
