Job Descriptions - District

There are eight districts within the Methodist Church in Ireland, each with its own District MWI Officers. If you're considering nominating someone (or you've been nominated yourself!) for a post within MWI, you may find the job descriptions below helpful.

 

DISTRICT PRESIDENT

 

The District President needs to have vision and enthusiasm for the work of the Methodist Women in Ireland and a commitment to serve Christ in this capacity. She will work closely with the District Secretary and Treasurer at all times.

Term of Office: Two years

Specific Duties:

Attend following meetings or Conference committees:

Expenses: Travel expenses to MWI General Executive, MWI Forum and Central Committee are refunded by the General Treasurer.  Record all other expenses.  These are paid by the District Treasurer.


DISTRICT SECRETARY

 The District Secretary needs to have vision and enthusiasm for the work of the Methodist Women in Ireland and a commitment to serve Christ in this capacity.  It is essential to have IT skills and access to a computer, use of e-mail, etc.  She will work closely with the District President and Treasurer in planning and preparing for District Executive Committee and in implementing decisions taken.

Term of office:  3-5 years.

Specific duties are as follows:

Meetings or Conference committees:

(Some of these depend on how your District is organised but the Secretary could expect to attend):

a.     Central Committee — once yearly

b.     MWI Forum – once yearly

c.     District Executive meetings — 2-3 meetings per year

d.    Pre-Synod Overseas Mission or Home Mission — twice yearly. Give short verbal report.

e.    District Synod — twice yearly.  Give short verbal report.

Expenses:   Travel expenses to Central Committee and MWI Forum are refunded by the General Treasurer.  Record all other expenses.  These are paid by the District Treasurer.


DISTRICT TREASURER

 

The District Treasurer needs to have vision and enthusiasm for the work of the Methodist Women in Ireland and a commitment to serve Christ in this capacity. It is helpful but not essential for her to have IT skills and access to a computer, use of e-mails etc. She will work closely with the District President and Secretary.

Term of Office: 5 years 

Specific Duties:

Meetings or Conference committees:

(Some of these depend on how your District is organised but the Treasurer could expect to attend):

a.     Central Committee — once yearly

b.     MWI Forum – once yearly

c.     District Executive meetings — 2-3 meetings per annum

d.    Pre-Synod Overseas Mission or Home Mission — twice yearly. Give short verbal report.

e.    District Synod — twice yearly.  Prepare short statement.  (This information is usually      given to the Secretary and incorporated in her report.)

Belfast Treasurer only.  Book seats and purchase train tickets to Dublin for MWI Committees whenever necessary.  This is then refunded to District by General Treasurer.

All other District Treasurers.  Inform Belfast Treasurer of how many seats/train tickets required at least one week in advance of meeting.

Travel expenses to MWI Forum and Central Committee are refunded by MWI General Treasurer.
