MWI Conference Service Cork 2007- Carmel Irwin reports...
What a thrill and an honour to be present at the MWI Conference Service in the beautiful Ardfallen Centre in Cork! As the June sunshine streamed through the windows there was a great sense of the presence of God. Greetings were exchanged and words of welcome echoed around the building.
Phyllis Watters welcomed everyone with a special welcome to invited guests,
After singing” All praise to our redeeming Lord”, (one of my favourite hymns), Psalm 150 was read. I began to think ‘Was this service arranged especially for me?’ Worship continued with the songs, ‘I am a new Creation’ and ‘I will sing onto the Lord’. God’s Holy Spirit was moving in a very real way.
After an inspiring report on Powerpoint from Laura, our Secretary, the new All Ireland President Designate was introduced.
Hazel Loney shared the excitement of her appointment and her theme for her time in office, one we all know well, “To know Christ and to make Him Known”. Hazel proceeded to share her heart, the heart of a servant Christian ready to work for her Lord. The MWI motto perfectly encapsulates Hazel. She exists to know Christ – what a privilege! And to make Him known – what a calling!
Hazel shared how she feels when an opportunity to talk about her Saviour arises – it is a joy to share the hope that lies within her.
In conclusion, Hazel described MWI as a ‘movement’, an ‘influence’, a ‘force in our Church’ and as Methodist Women, we should make a difference. The closing hymn, ‘May the mind of Christ my Saviour’ perfectly complemented Hazel’s theme “Looking only onto Jesus As I onward go” (H&P 739).
On a personal note, I benefited tremendously from attending the service. I was refreshed by Hazel’s realistic, honest and down to earth Christianity, blessed by the worship and renewed in my walk with God.
Conference in Cork was an experience not to be missed!! Highly recommended!
