Added: 5th October 2011
On 1st July I had the honour of attending the Launch of MWiB and Commissioning service in Southport. The theme for this historic occasion was `For such a time as this`.

The celebrations began with a photo exhibition, memorabilia, ideas for action and much more. During afternoon tea I had the opportunity of sharing with Rev Gerald & Mrs Elizabeth Hainsworth (Rev Ellen Whalley`s twin sister & her husband), who is the District President of the Liverpool District.
A special meal was prepared for the MWiB Officers and invited guests when we had an opportunity to explore our many common aims as Methodist Women.
The wording for the launch and commissioning was prepared using material written by Julie Hulme and Kathleen Pearson who also wrote a hymn entitled "For such a time as this". In the crowded church the first speaker for the evening was Rev Dr Kathleen Pearson OBE Baroness of Calow (the first female President of the Methodist Church in Britain), who took as her subject "Women in the Life of the Church" She recalled how her own mother had crocheted lace curtains for their home to keep people from looking in, she continued now is the time to draw back the `curtains` and allow the world to look into our organisation and through it find Christ. We live in an age of great opportunities, we must be ready to grasp them so women can be encouraged, enabled and equipped to participate to participate fully in the life of the church and society.
Rev Dr Liz Smith then spoke on "From seed to blossom to fruit" and challenged us to be fruit bearing Christian women who are truly" women making a difference"
The commissioning of the new officers was carried out by Rev Dr Mark Wakelin. Kathleen Pearson Britain and Ireland vice President WFMUCW danced into the pulpit singing `Bambelela, never give up, Christ is our hope`. She then gave a very inspiring report on the UN Millennium Goals called "A charge to action". The service concluded by singing `To God be the Glory` and the blessing was given by Rev Dr Alison Tomlin President of Conference.
The evening concluded with a reception where sparkling juice and a celebration cake were served. I found this a truly memorable occasion and it was a privilege to be part of it.
