On Saturday 10th September 2011, Movilla Abbey Methodist Church, Newtownards was the striking setting for the Installation service of Mrs Maureen Weir as All Ireland President of MWI. The sun shone cheerfully as ladies arrived from all corners of Ireland.
A crowded church was warmly greeted by Mrs Lyn Doran, Down District President and invited guests were made very welcome by the Past President, Mrs Joy Graham.
Following the MWI Conference report, Maureen's daughter Marion sang a delightful solo entitled "Shepherd of my Heart."
Immediately after being officially installed as President, Maureen, whose theme while in office is "Journey with Jesus, walk in His Way," provided us with illustrations of three journeys - one made by Moses through the Red Sea, another of Daniel to the Lions' Den and the expedition that was the Road to Emmaus. These challenged us all as we thought of how we would have reacted if faced with similar circumstances. How encouraging it was to be reminded that whatever journey God asks us to embark on, He will be with us for every step of the way.
Maureen also shared her chosen project for her term in office - The Mary and Elizabeth Movement. This is a network of about two thousand women from across Egypt, united in their desire to serve the women of their nation. Our support will help fund a nationwide conference for the Mary and Elizabeth network.
The marvellous hymn, "O Jesus I have promised," brought the service to a very relevant close. We then enjoyed a splendid tea, served by the Down MWI District officers and other ladies, also from the Down District. We had all benefited from an afternoon blessed by the presence of the Holy Spirit - a special service of dedication and an appropriate beginning to Maureen's Presidential term.
Homeward bound, we gave thanks for the awesome God that we are privileged to know and serve.
We wish Maureen every blessing as she serves as All Ireland President.
