Methodist Newsletter - July - August 2011
As I write this article it is the beginning of June and the fund raising is still in progress until the end of June for Project 5 - to help finance the building of the Health Clinic in Togo. The Project is linked to the United Nations Millennium Development Goal ( MDG) 5 - to Improve Maternal Health. Since it began last September there were many fund raising events organised throughout Ireland which made it possible to raise to date £7,000. The Ireland Unit Committee thanks all who helped so generously to raise this amazing amount. The total raised for the Clinic will be announced in the September Newsletter.
Donations to be sent to the Unit Treasurer, Mrs Jean Moreland, 1B Woodlands House, Rushpark, Newtownabbey, BT 37 9SG . Cheques made payable to "WFM&UCW - Ireland Unit".
The 12th World Assembly takes place in Johannesburg from the 10 - 15 August.
The theme is "Bambelela (never give up) Christ is our Hope. This and the Logo were the ideas of Miriam Murray who is the North East MWI Representative on the Unit Committee.
The seven Irish delegates will be among 600 delegates from the 9 World Federation global Areas attending the Assembly. The two keynote speakers are Bishop Joaquina Nhanala, the first woman African Bishop and Dr Fulata Mayo, Programme Executive for Women in Church and Society, World Council of Churches.
The World Federation World Officers request that Areas and Units raise funds to defray the cost of the Helen Kim Memorial Scholarship Programme. To date the Irish Unit held a coffee morning and more events will take place to fund Rachel Fallows to attend the Assembly. The Committee thanks all for their generous support.
We would greatly appreciate your prayers for the Assembly and especially for Maureen Young from the North West District who becomes the Area Vice President, Rachel Fallows from the North West District who becomes the Helen Kim Memorial Scholar and Sandra Dickson from the Down District the Unit Correspondent, each will hold office for 5 years.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the past 5 years for the work of World Federation, you have made a difference and we go forward into the next quinguennium with hope and faith to serve our God.
