New Beginnings

The summer is almost over and for many, summer holidays are just a distant dream or an item on a visa bill!! For our children and young people it's back to school or university, with new classes, new teachers, new routines and new challenges. In church life, September sees most of our organizations recommencing and ladies, I'm sure like me, you're looking forward to sharing in M.W.I. fellowship once again. Some of you may be taking up a new office within your group or district and may be facing the ‘new beginning' with fear. "Will I be able to carry out my duties as I should?"
In the Bible we come across many who were gripped with fear. Fear made the Israelites in the wilderness slight God's calling and care and want to return to Egypt.
Esther felt fear when she was asked to leave her familiar comfortable life and enter the King's harem, so she could be used by God to save her nation.
Fear made Peter deny Jesus three times.
As we bring our fears and anxieties to God, God himself offers to be with us. He offers to guide when we need wisdom, encourage when we falter, pick up when we sink and forgive when we stray.
In 2nd Timothy 1v 9 we read ‘We can only keep on going, after all, by the power of God, who first saved us and then called us to His holy work.' Leadership is a God given gift. You are called to serve God. Growing up I thought that being called by God was something only ministers, missionaries and full time church workers experienced but the Bible says every Christian is called to serve.
God said to Joshua, when he was afraid of the task of leading the children of Israel into the Promised Land ‘Fear not, for I am with you.'
As you serve Christ in M.W.I. in whatever role that may be, remember what God told Joshua and I pray that you all may experience the assurance of God's power and presence as you 'know Christ and make Him known.'
