They spread the Word......about the child!
It's Christmas! To get the most out of it we must take another look at where it all began - an unmarried mother giving birth in a stable with the animals in Bethlehem. When God told Mary that she was going to give birth to the Christ-Child she asked how could that could be possible? Are we looking at our own limitations and asking "How can this be?" Lk ch1 v34 or, are we telling God "I don't have the training, the experience, or the right connections; I don't have the strength to do it."
Like Mary, are we looking at our own limitations? We wonder how God will make things come to pass but we know that He is faithful and will accomplish the task.
When the angel spoke to Mary her response was "Be it according to your Word" Lk ch1 v38. Not according to my marital status, or my job, or my finances or what I deserve. Mary gave herself willingly to God and the results were truly miraculous.
The birth announcement was made by the angels to the shepherds. They had little status in the first century, they weren't even considered reliable enough to testify in court yet, God chose them to announce His only Son's arrival.
Here's our answer to "Could God use someone like me?" We don't need to be a theology student to share what God has done for us - just spread the Word and He will do the rest. "Those who heard their story were amazed" Lk ch2 v18. We have every opportunity to embrace His power and share His love this Christmas.
Luke writes "Mary treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart" She wanted to understand what was taking place in her life and we need that too. When we get off the Christmas merry-go-round and take time to treasure, not the trinkets and tinsel, but what is really important. May Gods amazing grace touch all our hearts this Christmas.
