Junior Mission for All

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Matt 28, v 19-20a (NIV)

Who we are

The Methodist Missionary Society (Ireland) is not a mission agency. It is the church itself sharing in world mission. Every member of the Methodist Church in Ireland is a member of the Methodist Missionary Society (Ireland).

Aims and purpose

For more than 200 years Methodists have left Britain and Ireland to proclaim God's Kingdom in word and action. Methodism is still a missionary movement and growing around the world. Today, in response to requests from our sister churches overseas, we share people, resources and knowledge in the service of the Gospel. We are also well aware that we can learn from our overseas partner churches and indeed receive mission partners to our own shores.

The purpose of MMS (Ireland) is expressed within the total mission of the Methodist Church in Ireland. We are committed to the promotion of Christian mission and evangelism and the establishment of churches overseas.

MMS (Ireland)

engages in partnership with overseas churches and inter-church bodies as they undertake the work of mission both within and beyond their own borders

supports work with communities in Ireland which originate in other countries

engages in education, recruitment, fund-raising and prayer support

sends and receives cross-cultural mission partners and we need more mission partners to meet an increasing opportunity in world mission

What we do

In recent years we have developed particular emphases:

  The Container Ministry
Volunteers in Mission (short-term mission teams)
  Mission Partners

 Experience Exchange Programme
 Junior Mission for All (JMA)
 The New Irish
 Edgehill Theological College
 Global Vision Conference

 District Conferences

The New Irish

In Ireland we are privileged to have ministers and lay people serving who have come from other countries. In addition many thousands of people seeking asylum have arrived within these shores. The church has been at the forefront of the welcome and the presence and strong Christian witness of many are enriching churches, mainly in the Republic of Ireland.

Edgehill Theological College, Belfast

Opportunities are available for ministers from overseas churches to study through the Scholarship Fund. MMS (Ireland) has contributed to the provision of a flat to accommodate a family from overseas while attending the College. The Irish School of Ecumenics in Dublin and our own Gurteen Agricultural College in Co Tipperary have also hosted students on the Scholarship Fund.
