CWSDS (Christian Weaker Sections Development Society)

Funding for 2008: £10,000 (€15,000) from WDRF

CWSDS was formed in 1979 to support Dalit people. Many of the staff themselves are Dalits and are personally motivated to spread the work of CWSDS and the empowerment of Dalits. The social and material changes made by the Dalit people in the area over the last two years are truly impressive. This includes gaining access to water, electricity, schools, roads, health centres and credit from banks.

Community based food security for Dalits: programme includes training in leadership, administration and confidence building - also awareness of right of access to public services, training in nutrition/sanitation, micro credit and training in sustainable agriculture. ...more>

El Salvador

Joint funded projects between WDRC and MRDF - El SalvadorIPES (Permaculture Institute of El Salvador)

In a country damaged by war and environmental degradation, IPES trains small scale farmers in methods of ecological agriculture and sustainable living. Nepal

Kopila - Education for underprivileged childrenJoint funded projects between WDRC and MRDF - Nepal

Kopila, meaning 'bud about to flower', was established in 2001 by a group of like-minded social workers for the children of slums in Western Nepal. Its vision is to create an environment where children can enjoy an environment conducive to learning and positive development, in health, education, recreation and child rights. Kopila works alongside dynamic community workers, including children, to make long-term changes.
