JMA FAQ

JMA FAQ

Answering your questions about JMA

What exactly is JMA?

JMA is not an organisation. It is a programme for children’s organisations and Sunday Schools which can be incorporated into the general programme to bring a global dimension. It is all about education. The main aim is not to raise money. However, the supporting of a project is a great way to engage children and help them learn. It is coordinated by the British Methodist Church and the Methodist Missionary Society (Ireland).

So what is the aim of JMA?

The JMA promise says it all: “I promise to learn, pray and serve in the worldwide Church of Jesus Christ.”

What resources are available to leaders?

  • FUN is the leader’s activity booklet. It comes out 3 times a year.
  • In terms of helping groups collect for the project – collecting boxes or collecting cards (whichever suits), account books (if needed), poster.
  • The project pack – this year it is Jambo Kenya (info, games, learning activities, crafts etc)
  • A short video about this year’s project (one was sent out to all ministers – please check with them or contact office)
  • Visit the British Methodist Church children’s website for downloads (including services).

What resources are available for the children?

  • JMA prayer cards
  • Rainbow magazine three times a year with stories, puzzles and news.

How do you receive the FUN and Rainbow magazines?

They are sent out from England 3 times a year but you can arrange your regular free mailing through the World Mission and Development Office in Belfast. The office can also handle any queries about your mailing.

What do all these resources cost?

Nothing. Just make sure you order them in good time.

How does the JMA badge system work?

If a child collects for the annual project they receive a badge. In their first year of collecting they get a medallion with a ribbon. They also receive a Rainbow badge for that year which is pinned on to the ribbon. In subsequent years they add a rainbow to the ribbon. These badges and award certificates can be ordered from the World Mission and Development Office. Most groups mark the awards in a service.

Where is any money for projects sent?

Ask your church treasurer to divide the sum in two. Half should be sent to MMS(I) and half to Home Mission. Your treasurer should know details for doing this. Please ensure that they accompany the amount with an explanatory note stating that it is from JMA efforts. Otherwise they can only be treated as general donations. Do not send JMA donations to the World Mission and Development Office.
