Night and Day of Prayer
An invitation to every Methodist church to pray for our nation at the beginning of a new church year.
|
Our dream was that every church across this island would commit to one 24 hour period of prayer, beginning on Saturday the 19th September and ending up with a family service on the Sunday morning.
If you prayed night and day and didn't manage to sign up or chose to pray at a different time please let us know? It is really encouraging for everyone to get the big picture of what God is doing across this island!
If your church would like to organise a Night and Day of Prayer at another time, you can still use the resources below to help you. Contact Gillian to let her know that you're doing this and also if you need any help or advice.
An island and church...people of all ages...united in prayer and praise...request and repentance...night and day
Night and Day Update
Around 60 churches took part and amazingly that represents nearly half of our circuits (we have around 70 circuits in all).
It was really encouraging to see that churches who had not come on board before, gave it a go.
We have received some feedback and below are a few quotes from churches involved!
Just to let you know that we stepped out in faith to do the full 24 hours and covered it all. We wanted to pass on our grateful thanks to everyone involved in supplying the resources. We found them really good - many people commented on how good and helpful the information was.

Night and Day with us in Centenary, Dublin was attended by more visitors than any of our previous Prayer Rooms.
There was a steady trickle of people all day and most interestingly from other Christian denominations. We had a Seven Day Adventist who stayed for 6 hours overnight, a Nigerian pastor, Presbyterians, Lutherans and Roman Catholics from our local churches and American visitors from the Burlington hotel called in while out on an early morning stroll! A Brazilian lady asked if it was okay to write her prayer in Portuguese and when she was reminded that her prayer was to God who would of course understand, warm hugs were exchanged and tears shed.
Our own congregation rallied round more than ever to provide 24 hour cover so we had a few new faces on the welcoming team.
Another story from this church is that a nurse coming off shift saw the lights on and the sign out and called in in the middle of the night and stayed 5 hours!
Our Night+Day Prayer weekend at Holywood Methodist went well. All of the prayer 'slots' were taken up and those involved expressed great encouragement. We also had some new people taking part who had not been involved in our prayer weekends previously.
We had different groups in the church looking after the different prayer pods, including several of our small Bible study groups, our praise group, and our youth fellowship.
We had a really good time in Craigyhill (we united for prayer in Larne). Many people commented that they never knew that they could enjoy pray for an hour. Young people prayed through the night.
Thank you for organizing this event. This was the first time our church (Lucan Methodist) had done anything like this - and our sister church in Tallaght, who joined with us. We turned the church into the prayer space and there was such a lovely sense of the gentle presence of God. I spent 3 hours there on Saturday and felt like I didn't want to leave, and was delighted to go back for another 2 hours on Sunday morning. It was so lovely to take time out from my usually busy life, to really sit in God's presence and draw near to him, to reflect and to pray without any other distractions. Personally I was blessed. But more than that, I was delighted to see and hear how much everyone who came was blessed. And that they want to do it again. Several people commented we should make it an annual event.

The purpose of these prayer pods is to make being part of Night and Day as accessible as possible for churches.
We are inviting you as churches to pray for five areas of national life: education, family, faith, government and economy.
Each prayer pod includes, instructions on how to create your prayer area for each issue, a list of things you will need and print outs with information or prayer points, prayers etc.
They can be used exactly as they are. Adapt them to suit your space and context. Use all five or choose a couple to focus on. There is no right and wrong.
If you have never had a prayer room in your church before check out the 24-7 Connect guide which will give you the basics of doing a prayer room or contact Gillian Best at DYCW.
We have also included all-age worship suggestions to use in your Sunday morning service.
