SOULMATES WEEKEND 2012
SEMINAR INFORMATION
Please find below the list of Seminars that we will be hosting on the Saturday Morning of Soul Mates Weekend. This year, we’ll be having a character bible study in each session, so that the children can have someone to specifically relate to. We’ve provided a brief description of each, along with the character that they’ll be hearing about.

Jonah and the false starts & second chances
Athletics
Last year, the rules changed for athletics. One false start and you’re out, even if you’re the fastest man in the world. Thankfully God doesn’t work that way, and we will be looking at the story of Jonah, and how God can give us second chances, just like he gave Jonah.
Catching others and telling them about Jesus
Cycling Pursuit
The cycling pursuit is a funny sort of race. It’s basically a game of catch, only on bikes. Philip met the Ethiopian after God arranged the meeting. This session will give us ideas of how we can share the news of Jesus with those we meet in our every day lives, and we’ll maybe not have to go chasing after them either.
Paul’s how to study the Bible
Diving
The divers go deeper into the water than any other Olympic sport, including swimming, canoeing and sailing. It takes years of practice to get it right. We’re often told that that we need to really know our bibles, but it often seems like that’ll take years. We will look at Paul in the bible and show us really practical ways of reading the bible so that before you know it you’ll be reading away at your bible.
Getting over obstacles in the story of Naomi
The Hurdles
Hurdlers are incredibly fast, even though they’ve to jump over huge big hurdles. Naomi’s life wasn’t quite as fast, but she still overcame some huge hurdles. We will be looking at how we can follow God no matter what’s put in our way.
How the Israelites kept on going
The Marathon
The Marathon lasts for ever. Well, that’s what it seems anyway. The Israelites were stuck in the wilderness for forty years, which perhaps puts the Marathon in perspective! Stephen will be looking at the perseverance that lasted 40 years and how we can learn patience like that.
Passing on the faith with the Disciples
Relay Race
Relay races don’t go very well if the baton doesn’t get the whole way around. Only the teams that pass the baton have any chance of winning. We will be looking at how Jesus taught the disciples and how they passed that news onto people they met.
How Job can help us strengthen our faith
The Shot-put
Throwing a 7 kg ball (probably heavier than your Soul Mates bag) the length of your church may not be the easiest thing in the world, but it looks amazing when you see it happen. The story of Job can be difficult, but it shows us how God can makes us stronger in our faith.
David & Jonathan look at Team Work
Synchronised Swimming
Synchronised Swimming/ Beach Volleyball can look absolutely amazing, and relies on the people in the teams knowing what their job is and trusting the other people in the team. We will look at the story of David & Jonathan and suggest how we can be just like them, and how we can be a really strong team.
Worship, Prayer and Bible Study through the story of Samuel
The Triathlon
The triathlon is an event with three different aspects to it, and the are three really important ‘basics’ of the Christian Life. This session will introduce these to us, giving us tips on the who, what, why, when and where.
Peter’s Reliance on God
Weightlifting
The weightlifters at the Olympics range from tiny little women to colossal big men, but can all lift incredible weights. None of them however would be strong enough to build a church on. Jesus called Peter ‘the Rock on which I’ll build my church. God was the secret to his strength, and Owen will let take us through how we can rely on God to give us strength.
Wrestling with the big issues with the Panel
Wrestling
The wrestlers in Greece were the Premiership footballers of their day. Today we get the chance to wrestle with some of the big issues in the bible, with a panel of Christians who, while they may not have all the answers, will be honest and have a go at them.
