Follow the Star
Follow the Star is an interactive telling of the Christmas Story specifically designed for children under 9. It allows the children who see it to enter into the story themselves. Its aim is to enable the children to engage in the story of the first Christmas through drama, games, stories, puppetry, art and craft.
The nativity story is played out in front of them, by a group of experienced adult actors, then the children get to dress up and join in the fun themselves. If acting’s not their thing, the children can find the corner with the play-doh, or the story book corner, or make a crown, or play with the toy nativity, or explore the other stations on offer. Reinforcement is the watch-word as we seek to share the Christmas story in ways that each child can engage.
Follow the Star made its debut Christmas 2006 in the prayer room at Aldersgate House, Belfast and because of the demand and success ran again in 2007. Inspired by their visit to ‘Follow the Star’ 2006 Rosalynde Robinson and Faith Henderson ran the same event in Meadow Shopping Mall, Portadown December 2007. Over the past two years more than 1,600 children have attended this interactive Christmas event.
This year, Follow the Star will be held in Glengormley and we’re hoping to finalise the other venues asap, so keep checking back!
