The Methodist Church in Ireland

Methodist Update 19 - May/June 2005

Hello, welcome to issue 19 of Methodist Update... It's been a while since the last one, so please accept my apologies if you feel like you've been left out! These occasional messages are intended to keep you up to date with events that you or your congregation might be interested in attending and/or praying for. Please feel free to print it out or to forward it to friends.

Star Wars III
A special screening of the new Star Wars movie, 'Revenge of the Sith', will take place on Thursday 2nd June to raise funds for DYCW's Brazil Team.

WHERE? WARNER VILLAGE CINEMA (ODYSSEY COMPLEX, BELFAST)
WHEN? 7.30pm for 8pm, on THURSDAY 2 JUNE. Coffee will be served prior to the showing.
HOW MUCH? £7
WHY? DYCW is sending a team of 21 people to Rio de Janeiro in July, spending a week with the oldest inner city mission in Brazil (working with kids, computer classes and maintenance work) before taking part in the 8th International Christian Youth Conference on Evangelism (organised by Methodist World Evangelism).
WHAT TO DO? Just turn up! Upon arrival, follow instructions from team members (don't buy your ticket from the box office!). It's helpful as we plan if you could let DYCW know how many seats you intend to fill BY TUESDAY 31 MAY: phone 028 90327191 or email dycw@irishmethodist.org. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on the night.

Diary Dates
There's a calendar of events that are of interest to the wider church on the IrishMethodist.org website. You can add yours too! Click HERE.

The 236th Conference of the Methodist Church in Ireland will take place in Portadown on 10-14 June. The full agenda is now online at www.irishmethodist.org/conference.

MWI meal at Conference
Sandra Dickson (General Secretary, MWI), writes: "Methodist Women in Ireland are planning a meal at 7.00 pm on Saturday 11 June 2005 in Portadown.  This will be a 4-course meal with a choice of menu.  The speaker will be Marlene Skuce, who will speak about Sri Lanka.  For further details and a booking form please contact Laura Griffith on 028 9086 8185 before 28 May.  All women are very welcome to attend and do not have to be part of an MWI group, but numbers are limited, so please contact Laura as soon as possible.  The cost of the meal is £12.50 each."

Ultimate / Autumn Soul
DYCW hope to offer a sports camp for young people in July: an activities-based, fun residential to encourage living life for God. And the Autumn Soul 2005 dates have been announced as 28-30 October. You can get more info from them direct: phone 028 90327191 or email dycw@irishmethodist.org.

Website Update
There are new jobs posted online, and the online community (the Speakeasy) is growing. The homepage now includes the Upper Room daily devotional. Visit www.IrishMethodist.org today!
Please note that the list of 'online methodists' will be removed soon. The best way to communicate the same information is to use the Speakeasy and include your location, interests, etc in your profile.
